Beautification Day at Walker-Jones Education Campus

The front of the Walker-Jones Education Campus

August marks the end of summer and the beginning of the school year. On Saturday, August 24, residents across the City will volunteer their time and skills at local schools as part of the annual DCPS Beautification Day.

At Walker-Jones Education Campus, we will assist teachers and staff with projects inside and outside the school building. Your help is essential to ensuring the school is ready for the new school year, and is in better shape than it's ever been.

Specific projects include the following:

  • Planting flowers
  • Mulching and weeding
  • Painting exterior doors
  • Wiping down desks
  • Cleaning lockers
  • Cleaning up storage rooms
  • Sweeping hallways and classrooms
  • Cataloging library books
  • Setting up leveled libraries
  • Guided book room setup
  • Assisting teachers with classroom setup
  • Preparing classroom bulletin boards
  • Preparing hallway bulletin boards
  • Decorating recycling bins
  • Decorating library drop boxes
  • Creating flashcards for teachers
